Can everyone really find their own angle on this set?

Yes. The two-seater sofa reclines independently on each side, and both armchairs recline as well, so four people can sit at four different angles at the same time. One person leans right back with a book on the sofa, the partner sits more upright with a cup of tea on the same sofa, and the two armchairs hold a third and fourth person at whatever angle suits them. We designed this set differently to the fixed-back lounge sets and the notched-recline chairs that lock you into three preset angles.

Each chair has a hydraulic side-handle: gently lean back, the lever steadily reclines the chair, and you fix it at any angle you like. To return upright, pull the lever again and let the hydraulic system do the rest. The mechanism is aluminium throughout, so the moving parts don't seize through wet UK winters the way steel-frame hinges do.

What does the adjustable table actually do?

Lift the top from a low lounge position to a proper dining height in a single motion, so one table covers two jobs on the patio. The difference between a 45cm coffee-height table and a 70cm dining-height table is the difference between balancing a plate on your knees and eating properly. Keep the table low while you're lounging with drinks, raise it when food comes out, drop it again afterwards when the cups of tea arrive.

The point of the adjustable mechanism rather than two separate tables is that most patios don't have space for both a coffee table and a dining table, especially on a typical detached-house patio of around 3m by 3m. One table doing both jobs frees up the rest of the patio for the seating itself, for planters, or for the route past the bi-fold doors.

Will it scale from a quiet afternoon to a family lunch for six?

Yes. Four main seats day to day, six when the grandchildren visit. The ottomans tuck under the recliners as footstools when it's just the two of you with chairs leaned back, and you pull them out as backless seats flanking the sofa for a Sunday lunch with six round the table. You're not searching for two more kitchen chairs every time someone visits, and you're not buying a separate eight-seater for the four times a year you actually need that capacity.

Is it really all-weather, no cover needed?

Yes. The frame is aluminium, which cannot rust, and we use a 0.2mm powder coating, two to three times thicker than what most aluminium garden furniture carries, so the coating doesn't break down through wet winters and freezing nights. The UV-stabilised synthetic rattan won't fade, rot or go brittle when left outside year-round.

This means the structure doesn't need a cover or storage, which saves you the hassle and the £50 to £100 a cover would cost. Cushions are the only part you'll want to bring in of an evening; a deck box on the patio or a shelf indoors keeps them dry between uses.

How does this compare to other reclining sofa sets at this price?

Cheaper reclining sofa sets use steel frames that rust at the hinges, PVC rattan that goes brittle in the sun, and notched recliners that lock you into three preset angles. You'd be replacing the set sooner and dealing with rust streaks on your paving in the meantime.

Considering a brand-name reclining sofa set at £3,000 or more? You'd be paying mainly for the marketing and the polished website. The actual furniture is almost exactly the same as ours: aluminium frame, UV-stabilised rattan, comparable hydraulic recline. Will the Stone Grey rattan fade in the sun?

The rattan is UV-stabilised synthetic, specifically chosen so it will not fade or go brittle in sunlight. Cheaper PVC rattan cracks and fades after a couple of summers, but UV-stabilised HDPE rattan holds its colour outdoors year after year.

Will the reclining mechanisms rust if I leave the set outside?

Aluminium cannot rust - it's physically impossible, which is why we only stock aluminium-framed furniture. Steel-frame sets corrode from the inside out through joints and bolt holes, and that problem typically shows after a couple of wet winters. With aluminium, you can leave the reclining mechanisms, hinges and all, outside all year round without that concern.

Do I need a cover for this set in winter?

The frame and rattan can stay outside all year round - no cover needed. If a set needs a cover to survive winter, it's not truly weatherproof in our view. Covers are optional for convenience, nothing more. All you need to do is store the cushions somewhere dry between uses.

How much assembly is required?

Hardly any. Slot each backrest into its seat and you're done. No tools, no screws, no fittings. The table arrives assembled and ready to use.

Delivery is included in the price, 3-7 working days to mainland UK. Your furniture is delivered on pallets via our courier, and we'll email you a timed delivery window so you're not waiting around all day.

Worth knowing: our courier delivers to the kerbside or driveway, they won't take items around the back of the house, and the pallet and boxes are left with you. If you'd prefer a white-glove delivery with set-up and rubbish taken away, get in touch and we can usually help.
