Garden Centre Shopping reclining rattan furniture uses a 0.2mm powder-coated aluminium frame across every set in the range. We specify aluminium because steel rusts from the inside out at joints and bolt holes, and HDPE because PVC rattan goes chalky and snaps after two summers of direct UV. Every set in this range survives frost, rain, and full sun on the same patio, season after season.
- Aluminium Frames That Cannot Rust: Our frames are built from 0.2mm powder-coated aluminium, roughly two-and-a-half to three times thicker than the 0.06 to 0.08mm coating most aluminium garden frames get. Our coating seals the metal through repeated frost cycles. We rejected steel because steel-framed rattan sets rust from the inside out at joints and bolt holes; by the time you see the orange streaks on the patio, the structure underneath is already failing.
- UV-Stabilised HDPE Rattan, Not PVC: We specify UV-stabilised HDPE rattan across the whole range, hand-woven over the frame. Our rattan doesn't fade, doesn't crack, doesn't go brittle. We rejected PVC because it contains plasticisers that out-gas under UV; you'll see the weave going chalky by the second summer, then snapping at the joints by the third.
- Recline To Any Angle You Want: Every chair in this range reclines to the angle you want, not just to three or four preset notches. We chose a different mechanism for each set: a hydraulic lever on the chair arm, a smooth side-handle, or a synchronised back-and-footrest, all of which let you stop where you want and stay there. Notched mechanisms click between three or four preset positions, which is fine for sitting upright but useless when you want a reading angle that doesn't match any preset.
- Leave Outside All Year, No Cover Needed: Our frame and rattan stay outside through frost, snow, and rain. We use aluminium that cannot rust and HDPE that doesn't degrade in UV, so neither needs a cover to survive winter. We've watched covers in this category tear in high wind and crack under UV after a couple of summers; they end up replaced as often as the furniture underneath.
- Thick Cushions With Washable Covers: Our cushions are 10cm thick, which keeps their shape through a long Sunday lunch or an afternoon reading. We chose 10cm over the 6 to 8cm used at the lower-priced end of the rattan-furniture category because thinner cushions feel fine for half an hour, then compress and you start feeling the frame underneath. Our covers are removable and washable, so when you do need to store them through winter, they go back on the chairs looking the same the next March.
